About Us

Avish Aviation Equipment Pvt. Ltd.

Avish Aviation Equipments Pvt Ltd was established in 1993 in Pune to provide world class Ground Support Equipments to aircraft operators in India at a reasonable cost. The aviation and engineering background of founder members and initial association with world leaders in GSE like Houchin (UK), Houbart (USA), Anton Pillar (Germany) provided proven technology base for design, development & manufacturing. Till date more than 550 GPUs are operational. With in-house facilities for design & manufacturing, our experienced teams of field engineers are supporting our client spread all over India. At present Avish Aviation has “Ground Power Unit” for every need of our esteemed clients in Civil and Military Aviation market.

After obtaining a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Roorkee in 1957, Senior Sood joined the Indian Air Force (IAF) and underwent aeronautical engineering training. He was then absorbed by HAL and inducted for annual maintenance of various aircraft types and later trained in helicopter overhaul in the USA. Later was he deputed to establish an overhaul base in Gwalior and subsequently selected as a founding member to set up an aircraft factory in Lucknow. He spent 12 years building the factory from scratch. A major achievement during this period was building advanced test equipment for 27 types of accessories like power controls, engine pumps, hydraulic pumps, motors, and generators. He was also involved in developing prototypes of aircraft ground support equipment, such as the Ground Power Unit (GPU), Hydraulic Trolley, Aircraft Cooling Unit, and Bomb Loader. The GPU, with high sales production, was supplied to the IAF, totalling 100 units.

During his tenure at the Engine Factory, he worked for two years overseeing a new phase of industrial turbines used for power generation and gas pressure boosting. This led to a collaboration with GE Rolls-Royce, resulting in a new division focused on engine production. Later, he was selected as the Managing Director of the MIG complex in Nashik, where he focused on transforming the underperforming aircraft factory at Ujjain and the engine factory at Koraput. Under his leadership, the factory in Koraput received the Soviet Union’s highest award, the “Friendship of People” award. During his tenure, the MIG BIS was developed, and 25 GPUs were built, leading to over 100 units sold within five years.

After retiring in 1990 he settled in Pune and continued his post-retirement work. He set up a factory to cater to IAF (Indian Air Force) requirements, including the building of a 90 KVA GPU with Houchin UK and the establishment of a small unit Avish Aviation Equipment Pvt. Ltd. in Pune.
